All conversations lead to poop.

A few weeks ago we had to take Sydney to the dr. for a bad irritation. While discussing this, we got onto the subject of Sydney and her inability to handle a bowel movement (BM). From day one, Sydney didn't poop for eight, yes EIGHT, days.

Our Dr. in Colorado at the time kept telling us she's fine, she's fine, it
will come out eventually. And it did but we had nurses and lactation
consultants giving us the eye telling us this isn't normal. But it finally
came... oh Happy Days! Poop has come to the Weddle house!

For 4 years, Sydney maybe has pooped on two consecutive days, maybe 5 times. She holds it for about 3-4 days.

Can you imagine how happy I was when Ethan pooped within 3 hours joining the world... tears of joy running down my face?

So Dr. Cafarella, here in Roseville, tells me that if this had been his patient... after 8 days of an infant not pooping, the baby would have been into a Gastro-intestinal (GI) specialist.

And that's where our story really begins today... 8am with the area's GI pediatric specialist.

"Well, what concerns me is she's had this since birth. Her whole tummy is visibily filled with poop (as she's feeling Sydney's tummy) and this has affected her nerve endings in her colon. We'll have to get her cleaned out and hope that shocks the nerve endings to come back to the surface because right now they are pushed away from her colon wall."

We asked if this has caused Sydney's ability to leave track marks on all her underware and have accidents at school. You know... the ones we yell at her about because she obviously is not a smart kid to know when she needs to poop.

You'll love this answer... the type that makes you feel like the worst parent EVER:

"This problem she has is the reason she has difficulties. Her body can't tell when she needs to go to the bathroom so it just comes out on its own."

Oy-vey. I'm going to go buy her a special present tonight just for all the times I've chastised her "Sydney... do I need to put you into diapers?? Because I know babies that poop in their diapers like this."

Or the natural consequence of throwing her panties away, "Sydney, when you dirty your panties this bad, mommy has to throw them away. So if you don't want me to throw your panties away with Cinderella on them, you'll need to get the poop into the toilet."

I know, I know.... one might say, "But who would have known? It was a power struggle of who owned the toilet." You know my response... the kid is getting THREE presents now.

So in January we have a follow up appointment to see how this treatment took. If it didn't work, then we need to look into some other causes that can be found by giving her a barium enema. Doesn't that sound like fun??

See... all my conversations for the holiday season will be about poop. How are you doing today Lynn? Oh I'm fine, Sydney's got poop issues but how are you?

poor S, but at least it's not and not when she's 20 and has years of therapy for still pooping her panties and no boyfriends because she's afraid they'll see ... you're saving on therapy bills, yay!
