Kid update Feb 2011

Where has the time gone?

My daughter's social calendar.

Ethan has no chance of any activities at this rate. But while Nathan is home I did schedule a playdate for him with his new BFF Chase.

So Miss Sydney....
We are entering into her last months of a first grade. She's headed to the planetarium this week and was able to tell me how long certain planets rotate around the sun and the moon has an orbit of an ellipse.

Her friendships have continued to grow and it's interesting to walk her through how to work on her friendships to ensure she gets what she wants out of them and gives to them what they desserve.

In the last few weeks we've had a bit of back-talking to us with a tone. Sure it's a sign of things to come. I've had about 4 hours where I just ignored her until I felt like talking to her again.

Some of her new words I hear out of her: similar,

More importantly, her phrases:
"First of all.... second of all...."
"That totally freaked me out."
"P.S. ....."
"Chillax."
"yeah, yeah, yeah."

Her activities:
Tennis, Ballet, Tap, Trampoline and Tumbling, Girl Scouts (Daisy)

Her favorite toys:
Barbies! Drawing.

Size shoe:
Had to note this one.... it's anywhere from a 4 to a 5.5 depending on the shoe. I can now take her to DSW to try shoes on and she is oh so happy to go there! If shoes have sparkles on them and are over 4 inches, she's content.

Mr. Man!
Ethan is still at an age where milestones abound.

We had a really good week with him last week. He was kind, funny, loving... a sign of what's to come when he's not throwing fits. Last night he ended up in bed at 7:30 because he kicked me. It's a roller coaster of ups and downs.

I've noticed he, as a boy, likes to show off his naked body a lot. He loves his body. Wants to be tickled non-stop and wants to play chase every chance he can get. He is simply not content sitting still. Physically, he's a beefcake. Very thick and you can really see it when he's around other kids his age. He's tall and has a large foot. He's in size 11 shoes right now.

Last night we had the fire on and he was caught gazing at making really funny faces at it and squinting to see the fire at different aspects.

Nothing is as precious when he runs to me, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! I missed you... I love you sooo much!" It's an amazing feeling.

He plays games with me where we'll be sharing a toy and he takes mine away and says, "Be Sad! Now, be happy!" Takes the toy away again. "Be Sad!" gives it back, "be happy!"

Role playing is starting a little where he will put on our running shoes and say, "I"m going to workout. I will be back after my meeting."

I've caught him singing to himself in the car. Just makes up some songs. Forgot Sydney did that once too.

He has been having playdates with very special friends. His BFF's are Christian, Danny, Gavin, Chase, Hazel and Kaylani.

Our cute little ritual is at drop off for daycare. He has to lay down in a corner by himself, get covered with blankies and receive about 3 rounds of kisses and hugs. The downside to that is I get ambushed by about 6 kids a morning. It's a ritual that I thoroughly enjoy. Everyone tells me their stories about how dinosaurs chew off their ears and then their mom went to the ear store and put new ears on. Or it's really fun for us all to show each other our bug bites and bruises. Or sometimes, I get the boys showing me their belly buttons. The best part of it was when I had to come back in to get my purse I forgot and one child said to the teacher, "I really like Ethan's mommy." Bless his heart!

He's an amazing love bug on his downtime. Both the kids are snuggle bugs and I'm just in love with these amazing kids.
