When Nathan's gone, I read the kids books in Ethan's room. We turn off the light, snuggle for about 10 minutes and then we put Sydney down to bed (she's fallen asleep by now and I have to wake her up.)
Last night Ethan was adamant about putting her to bed every minute. He finally got so upset, he head butted me. I immediately left the room, put Sydney in bed and snuggled her.
I spent the next 15 minutes disciplining Ethan to get back in his room and he shouldn't bonk my head because it hurts and well... MOMMY HURTS!
I tell Sydney I'm going to turn the house fan on. I get back in bed, snuggle her then tell her how much I love her and how amazing she is. No response. I go to bed.
FAST FORWARD TO THIS AFTERNOON:
"Sydney told me this morning how upset she was that you didn't come back to snuggle her last night. Something about the air conditioner?"
Can't you just see it? In twenty years, she's in therapy telling her therapist I abandoned her for the air conditioner. If she hadn't fallen asleep, she would have known how much I loved her... but NOOOOO she had to fall asleep during snuggle time.
This is my documentation so I can show her in the coming years.
