Seriously.. something else that's wrong with this world...

Let me start it off this way, so there's no mistake in my true desire for this world:

I think every child/person should strive to eat sustainably and responsibly. I truly believe that packaged foods doom us all in. If I could adopt one child's lunch at school, I would.

Now...that being said... I just got an email telling me that the Child Nutrition Act is in jeopardy of being postponed a year or two. This is something I signed a petition for reasons stated above.

Here's the controversial part: if 1/3 of our children are considered obese and it's the first generation of kids who aren't expected to outlive their parents, isn't this what one might consider, "Survival of the fittest?"

I'm reconsidering pushing the Act any further because I just can't see how it will all get funded. Perhaps more research is needed but still, we've been dealing with blow after blow after blow.

I struggle with that statement above, because we're talking about human beings... but I'm also thinking about this healthcare program... I'm thinking about the oil spill issue (environmental and economical impact)... about California being the country's joke. And I wonder... where are you going to get the money to ensure kids have healthy food?

Seriously... I want to do good... I'm a central political thinker... but you just can't have your cake and eat it too... so what's going to give? Healthy kids? or Clean up an oil slick?

I want the world to be perfect too, but somewhere you have to draw a line and every program, while it might pull at your heart strings, just can't be funded.

What a quagmire.
