Equality and Raviolis

Sydney's most recent observation of how the world works

Sydney was putting on white tights this morning and remarked, "Mommy, I'll have white skin today but only on my legs. The rest of my body will be tan. Did you know that some people have dark skin? Some people have really white skin. I have tan skin. People are different you know."

I replied, "Yes, all people are different on the outside but they are all still the same: people. It's what makes us all unique and special."

Sydney, "Yes, but it hasn't always been like that. People with dark skin were treated differently. Mr. King said so and tried to fix it."

Me: "That's right honey... "

Sydney: "Ms. Karen talked to me about this. Mr. King."

Ethan's most recent observation:
I'll set the scene for you.... we were all on our bed the other night playing. We got some new bedding which included a diamond quilted coverlet. It's quilted into really small squares. It's a cream color.

Ethan stopped jumping because he's intent on the coverlet. He looks up and says, "Oily for dinner?"

Translation: "Ravioli's for dinner?"
