New Car Seat Recommendation

New study out today urging parents to keep their child in a rear-facing car seat until they turn 4. I don't disagree... it's just better for IF you got into the car accident, force is better distributed across the body.

So now I'm faced with a dilemna. If I turn Unit 2 around, he'll be fine now. But if he's like his sister (and I'll assume your child too), where exactly to I put his legs? He'll be sitting indian style for 2 more years.

And he won't get to watch the DVD player on long trips! Sigh....

So here's a proposal. I turn him around for in-town trips so he's rear-facing. And on long trips, after the first five miles, turn him face forward. Because when I was in traffic school last weekend, I learned that 60% of accidents happen within 5 miles of your house.

I'm just not seeing that one being accepted my main stream parenting. Audrey's coming up on 4. If she were still rear-facing she wouldn't be nearly as independent and self-sufficient as she is. Also, this limits the ability to re-use car seat within a family.

There is some hope as I've seen newer seats that go from infant to big kid. I'd be more likely to keep my kid rear-facing if they only had one car seat their whole life.
