Discovering Wind

The wind picked up here a bit tonight... just a nice breeze. Enough bluster to cause my son to wonder, "What is wind?"

He's about 20 feet from the front yard tree. He's looking at it with his hands on his ears. Then he takes them off. Back on. Back off. On. Off.

Gradually, he starts to walk toward the tree while he continues to take his hands on and off his ears.

That's how you discover either 1) the trees make noise or 2) there's some other force out there.

This boy, I swear, is so different than Sydney. He has tried to figure out light switches and how they make the lights work. He's figured which things belong in the trash. He can tell you that before bed, his shoes need to be put away. And now he is figuring out wind.

I think the first time around, you just don't know what to look for until it's over. The second time around, you are more aware and can experience in the same amazement.
