But I want OOONNNNNEEE!
I just finished watching my recorded taping of Oprah where she unveiled her latest "Favorite Thing."
Each of the guests had a little package under their seat, with a bow on it too!! No... it wasn't a key to a new car.... It Was BETTER!!
It was the Amazon Kindle. IT HAS A DICTIONARY...! Because as some know, I don't know how to pronounce "awry". My life has gone "AW-REE." (Don't worry, a so nice uncle of mine told me I wasn't pronouncing it correctly in front of a group of people. Yes, he's nice and thoughtful. smirk.) I also have a hard time with "Presbyterian." Who knew it's not pronounced "Pre-best-rian"... you know... a really good person that walked before you.
I side tracked.... sorry.
OHHH... the Kindle timing is perfect. My birthday is in 3 weeks and if there's one thing I LOVE about my birthday... it's a month away from Christmas. Historically I ask that my BD and Xmas presents be lumped into one so I can logically get expensive gifts. The Kindle is retailing for $359. CHA-CHING!
Seriously... last year was the best. See the equation below:
My birthday + Christmas + 5 year anniversary + (big plus) My son's birth
=
Tiffany's box with beautiful Aquamarine Earrings.
Ok... back to the Kindle... Don't you see how I can get it?? Even with a bad economy, I can logically work my way to this gadget that saves the environment. But then I read "Living Oprah" and she has just turned down the Kindle FROM OPRAH HERSELF... Just the reality check I need... check in with my integrity during these hard times. I can't just go out and get one, even if Oprah says it's a "must-have."
But, I still want one and I can justify it because I'll be saving paper and I'm good about being eco-conscious (I haven't used a grocery bag in a month!). But it's $359! Even with Oprah's $50 off coupon, I just have a hard time with this. Sigh....
I'll feel bad for buying the next 17.95 books I want to read because that could have bought me a Kindle!! And think of the poor trees... (average book is $20, divided into $359, you see my math?)
HA... THAT is how I'll save up for it! Every time I want to buy a book or newspaper or magazine (YES! the kindle has those TOOOOO) I will put it in my "Save for Kindle" account and then I can do it!!
But, I still want one... and that plan will 1) take too long and 2) I'll miss out on the $50 gift certificate on Oprah's site and 3) ensure I go blind because I'll only be reading off the internet.
To coin a term, "What a world! What a world!" from the Wicked Witch of the West. Stay tuned. I have 7 days to redeem that coupon.

I about cried when I say that and couldn't stop jumping up and down. I absolutely want one too. Paul told me to wait for the touch screen one that will for sure come out in the future. So I too wait and remember everytime I buy a book, I could be paying less, not wasting paper, and where do I put the finished book when I am done.
wow - I usually read you in a feed reader, and then I jump out and everything is different!
Only to be devil's advocate ... the library would also help you save paper. And money.
Personally, I live a luddite life. My phone is a phone. My camera a camera. Internets do not work on my phone. My laptop does not have a web-cam. I think another word for it is, uhm, cheap. :)
Maybe you, me and Lisa can all get one and share?! ;) yeah right...but at 1/3 the price it seems more reasonable....and we'd have an instand book club ;) not to mention like any of us have time to read all the time :)
