Half powder + half soda = One yummy cookie

The last time I made chocolate chip cookies was more than a year ago I think. They are the death of me, I cannot control my appetite for them. So I simply don't make them unless I can give them away.

I found i was always struggling with the recipe (toll house). I've lived in so many different atmosphere's, it's hard to make perfect cookies at 5000 feet and then down where it's 1 foot plus 100% humidity.

Finally we are back home in Sacramento where I was taught how to make cookies. One lesson I learned in Colorado was to actually add a bit of baking powder to the cookie to get it to rise a bit more. I think I may have come up with this myself and then I socked away the information for a long time.

My resident expert in cookie making (all things baking actually) confirmed that her perfect cookies is 1/2 soda and 1/2 powder. Verifying that I wasn't off all those years ago....

So I got my new Kitchenaid mixer and made my first batch in over 2 years....

Devine Cookies Prevailed. At least that's what my husband said. And my cousin asked me for my secret...

I also split up the 2 batches and put 2 cups of chopped walnuts in one... those were especially yummy.

So I haven't figured out what made these especially yummy.... the powder/soda combo... the walnuts... or the spiffy new mixer I got. Only time will tell!
